I have a technical question for you. I’m having a head-scratching issue with my 1965 GTO, which has a driveline vibration that I can’t seem to track down.
The car is running my Pontiac 400-cu.in. Tri-Power engine with a TH200-4R overdrive automatic transmission from the 1980s. I got a new custom driveshaft with a new transmission slip yoke and a new rear U-joint yoke, fitted with Spicer HD joints. I got this driveshaft because I thought this was the source of the vibration, but it was not.
The vibration starts at 60 mph and continues as speed increases. It does not go away when under load. If I decelerate (foot off the gas), the vibration goes away completely. Under 60 mph, the car is smooth as silk and has no vibration whatsoever. The condition takes place when the car is in overdrive or in third gear.
I’ve had the car to a competent shop to check out the front end, which also has no issues. The car has a 10-bolt rear with 3.90 gears and a factory Safe-T-Track limited-slip unit. It had no previous
