SWAP MEET
FORD INTAKE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLDS
Q: Will the intake and exhaust manifolds from a Ford 351M (modified) fit any other Ford V-8s, like the Cleveland?
Joel Sanders Via email
A: Original 1971-’74 351C (Cleveland) two-barrel exhaust manifolds do not interchange with any other engine. Although the mounting bolt pattern and attaching gasket for 1971-’79 400 V-8s and 1975-’81 351M V-8s is the same, the shape of the manifolds is not the same. The later 351M four-barrel engines do, however, interchange with the 400 V-8s (except for the passenger’s-side manifold on 1978-’81 Broncos). Headers would be listed as interchangeable for both engines, but specific for each body style.
Intakes for the Cleveland are also different. Ford used one for 1971-’72 and another in 1973-’74. These are Cleveland engine applications only. The later 351M used two different intakes in 1975, the first included an EGR valve mounting point and fit 1975-’76. It also fit the 400s. The second manifold did not include EGR and fit 1975 only. The 1977-’82 351M and 400 intake manifolds do interchange.
