    In 2016, voters in Massachusetts made cannabis history by legalizing marijuana for adult use, becoming the first East Coast state to do so. Anyone over 21 years of age can purchase pot products including flowers, concentrates, edibles, topicals and much more at licensed dispensary locations, some of which already existed under Massachusetts’s medical-marijuana law.

    New England Treatment Access, or NETA, has been at the forefront of the Massachusetts medical-marijuana movement. Its Northampton dispensary first opened in 2015 to serve registered patients and became the first shop to open for recreational adult use on the East Coast in 2018, to much press and fanfare. Fears of long lines and parking mayhem were overblown, and even the mayor welcomed the new company, and the ancillary business it would bring, to the town.
