Pity the player of Telling Lies who, having revelled in piecing together one of the most elegantly constructed – certainly the most elegantly deconstructed – videogame narratives ever, must then attempt to explain its appeal. Almost everything you could say about Sam Barlow’s exploded narrative mystery is a spoiler. Words are the key to searching a database for new video clips that contain more information. A name, a place, a job title, a significant object: the right words will set a person down a linguistic path and rob them of their own discovery. Pity the reviewer of too, then.
