Luscious Leeks!

Leeks, along with onions, have to be one of my favourite vegetables. They are simply one of the most versatile veg we can grow in our gardens and allotments, giving the iconic taste of autumn/ winter in many ways, be it blanched, boiled, made into a delicious soup or simply covered in a cheese sauce.

Leeks along with onions and garlic are part of the allium family and are originally from central Asia, where they have been eaten for thousands of years. Both the Egyptians and Romans feasted on these leafy veg before they became more widely grown in Europe in the Middle Ages, and we have loved them ever since. The Welsh even made the leek their national emblem!
