Dear candidates, you need Latinos more than they need you

Is this what respect feels like? Democratic presidential candidates are bickering over who deserves the Latino vote.

I wonder if the 2020 election will bring about a change in Democratic interest-group politics. Specifically, will Democrats finally be able to see Latinos as more than just a part of the undifferentiated mass that goes under the umbrella term "people of color"? Will the party pay the specific, targeted attention that is due to Latinos?

The coming months will reveal the answer as the Democratic candidates are winnowed and the primary path winds
