GOTTA BE AN AMERICAN
Dear Classic American, As a keen reader of my wife’s subscription to Classic American, I have occasionally noticed various views expressed about the merits of older US models compared with recent models. We like both and have had three vehicles built between 1997 and 2006. I don’t, however, remember seeing any articles or mail about the difficulty in actually renting an American marque in the US.
When we started taking vacations in the US in the Nineties, our first rental car was a Chrysler Neon – fairly basic, but at least it was an American car and went very well. Since that time we have had a Saturn, Chevrolet HHR (I liked that one, so much I bought one in the UK), a Dodge Dart and a Dodge Kaliber (regrettably, the only one that was not a pleasure to drive) and, best of all, a Chevrolet Impala.
