Dear Classic American, I have to say, I think your feature on young owner/drivers in the May issue was a really good idea. The stories must resonate with so many readers, myself being no exception. Jordan Harkin’s story and his family’s Skylarks struck a chord with me. At the age of 18 and beginning my mechanic’s apprenticeship, I happened upon a forlorn 1963 Buick Special Deluxe in a local field. Having raided my lowly bank account, I dragged the car out of the owner’s property and set about getting it through the MoT. This I did successfully after a couple of years of spannering and eventually became an MoT tester myself. It was a great grounding.

During my ownership of the ’63 I was a member of the Buick Club of America UK chapter which, correct me if I am wrong, no longer exists. I attach a photo of a small gathering of members at Knebworth in Hertfordshire (in the early Eighties), which includes two
