WHAT A PAIN!

Everyone experiences pain sometimes, whether it’s a headache, backache, pulled muscle or even just a small cut. It serves a useful function, acting like a warning signal, even though we may not always not appreciate it (especially if we’ve just stubbed a toe – ouch!).

Pain lets us know something’s wrong with our bodies that needs attention, as well as protecting us and teaching us to recognise our limits so that, hopefully, we can avoid injury. But chronic pain can also have a severe impact on our quality of life.

We’re renowned as a nation with the ability to ‘grin and bear it’, but with one in four* of us experiencing pain constantly, 66% of us rating our ongoing pain as a seven out of 10 or above, 41% of us losing three to four hours’ sleep per night and 44% of us taking sick days because
