GASPERINI LEADS ATALANTA INTO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Eleven years ago, not long after he had arrived in Italy to coach Internazionale all the way to a Champions League trophy, Jose Mourinho came up against a relatively unknown coach in Gian Piero Gasperini.

In those days, “Gasp” was in charge of a useful Genoa side that featured players such as Argentinian striker Diego Milito, Brazilian midfielder Thiago Motta and full-back Domenico Criscito. Surprisingly, Genoa held league leaders Inter to a 0-0 draw at the San Siro on that October 2008 day, even though Genoa had finished the game with just 10 players.
