A LESSON IN BEAUTY
To hear Rosemary Alexander talk about her Sussex garden, you’d be forgiven for thinking it had all gone horribly wrong. “The Kitchen Garden,” she says sadly, “has been an absolute disaster this year. The pigeons have eaten almost all the salad leaves.” Walking around, she is quick to point out the garden’s faults – the main path, where “the planting is too straight”, and the terrace in front of the house, which “still isn’t quite right”.
What Rosemary is far too modest to say is that her garden is actually an absolute delight: a series of spaces that reveal themselves one after another, showcasing her renowned design skills and impeccable eye for planting combinations, while making the most of the beautiful views that frame the garden’s back half.
