One of the truly delightful surprises of our cruise last summer through the inland waterways to the Med was the Compiègne Yacht Club. Historic Compiègne (pronounced Compienne) is just 30 minutes by train from Paris Nord, but the Yacht Club offers waterway travellers idyllic safe harbour at extremely reasonable prices.

The town is famous for being the location of the Compieègne Wagon, the train carriage where German military commanders were brought to sign the armistice in November 1918, which marked the end of World War I.
