What lies beneath?

Catching fish is almost all about the right location. Take a boat out to a certain ledge in May you’re probably going to catch some large bream, while a favourite wreck in September will usually result in some nice bass and possibly a cod or two.

But positioning yourself precisely above the fish you want to catch is only possible if you can actually see what is going on underwater. And while traditional 2D sonar is still very usable and definitely the most affordable tool for ‘seeing’ fish as you pass overhead, the last decade has seen a proliferation of sonar hardware and software offering high definition images of the seabed all around your boat – and now even moving images.
