My Dad’s love of fishing introduced me to boating. During the quieter summer months before the cod arrived, he would ferry us in his small fishing boat from Eastney ferry pontoon to Sinah Sands to play on the sandbanks at low tide and look for cockles while he retreated to his mooring for a quiet spot of fishing. Once he left it far too late to come back for us by which time the sandbank had disappeared and my Mum was up to her waist in water, cradling me, a toddler, in her arms.
