JUNE 1 Frisco’s Rock the Dock Party Colorado may not have an ocean—but with 27 miles of shoreline, 3,300-acre Dillon Reservoir might be the next best thing. At this lakeside celebration, kick off summer in true beach-bum fashion: On the sand, enjoy a $6 burger-and-beer combo from Island Grill and original tunes from local jazz and rock group Sixty Minute Men. Waterborne activities, such as sailing and paddling, may fool you into thinking you’re on the California coast—if it weren’t for the soaring peaks of the Tenmile Range in the background. Sat 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Frisco Bay Marina, 267 Marina Road, Frisco, 970-668-4334, townoffrisco.com. Free.
JUNE 15 1940s WWII-Era Ball The 1940s were defined by iconic art, fashion, and music—not just the decade’s infamous war. At this period ball, get acquainted with the sights and sounds of the Greatest Generation, with jazz and swing dance performers such as the Boulder–based Flatirons Jazz Orchestra and a replica drive-in movie theater complete with vintage cars and old-fashioned newsreels. A taxiway will even transform into a Parisian street while a World War II–era plane performs a flyover tribute, so you can feel just like the Allies on VE Day. Sat 4 p.m.-1 a.m. Boulder Municipal Airport, 3327 Airport Road, Boulder, 720-924-1945. $69-$75. Visit 1940sball.org.
