UNITS

EMU

CLASS 313

THE use of Class 313 EMUs on commuter services on Great Northern came to an end on September 30, some 43 years after the units were introduced on the route. The final working, the 2J83/23.33 Hertford North-Moorgate, was operated by Nos. 313048/049. Two sets (Nos. 313064/134), both of which last saw normal use on September 23, were retained for the GTR/UK Railtours farewell special on October 23.

More ‘313s’ have been disposed of to scrap dealers. On the last day of regular workings on the GN (September 30), No. 37884 took Nos. 313037/051 away on their final movement, the 5Q78/10.52 Hornsey-Sims, Newport. The same loco took Nos. 313052/059 from Hornsey to C F Booth, Rotherham on October 7.
