Fast-Packing

WHAT IS FAST-PACKING?

AW It’s a combination of trail running hiking and backpacking, usually overnight and with a minimum of equipment. Comfort is secondary to weight saving.

The pack itself will weigh significantly more than a trail running pack, and significantly less than a backpack for the equivalent distance when hiking.

It’s an amazing way to train for ultras, see the country, and do trails that usually require a week off work to hike.

On a fast-pack I will hike the climbs, power-hike gentler climbs, jog the flats, and run the not too steep downs. Steep descents, I hike.

Moving fast over terrain with a significant amount of weight on your back. As opposed to trail running where you run most of the way and pack mostly just water and food, or hiking where you walk and pack everything apart from the kitchen sink and
