Costco shooting: Family of man killed describes begging officer not to shoot

LOS ANGELES - At an emotional news conference Monday, the parents of a man with schizophrenia who was shot and killed by an off-duty Los Angeles police officer at a Costco described begging the officer not to open fire after he pulled out his gun and identified himself as police.

Kenneth French, 32, was killed in the shooting in Corona, about 45 miles east of Los Angeles, on June 14. His parents, Paola and Russell French, were severely injured.
