Puerto Rico's Governor Resigns Amid Political Chaos, Says Successor Will Be Sworn In

Because Puerto Rico's Senate has not approved Pedro Pierluisi yet, immediate legal challenges are expected if he is sworn in. Protesters gathered outside the governor's mansion.

Puerto Rico's disgraced Gov. Ricardo Rossellรณ is departing office and says the man he appointed as secretary of state, Pedro Pierluisi, will be sworn in as the new governor.

According to the island's constitution, the secretary of state is the next in line to succeed the governor. Puerto Rico's House of Representatives approved Pierluisi's nomination earlier on Friday.
