Rolling hills, moorland, steep cliffs and the low-lying Levels, home to Glastonbury and a high concentration of crystal gazing shops – this day ride around Somerset takes in a bit of everything. We start in Taunton, the county town just off the M5. It’s home to 70,000 people, but still seems to me to have the feel of a market town.
Head west on the A358 signed to Minehead and at the last roundabout on the edge of town take the B3227 for Bampton where the A road forks right. This B road passes through several villages, but it shapes up to be a sort of A road in places, wide with a good surface, but still twisty
