Following the failure of the 21.30 Euston-Inverness at Harthope Viaduct, between Beattock station and the summit (Dumfries and Galloway) early on May 18, the following 22.15 Euston-Glasgow was stopped at Greskine and the driver William Brown of Polmadie asked to bank the stranded train towards the top of the gradient.
