On the hunt: 47222

BEING based in Leeds in the early 1980s gave enthusiasts like me access to a wealth of loco-hauled trains. This was atime before the ‘Sprinter’ revolution, and Leeds was at a crossroads of east-west and north-south expresses. Services across the Pennines were still in the hands of ‘40s’, ‘Peaks’ and ‘47s’; cross-country trains on the North East/South West corridor saw mainly ‘Peaks’ and ‘47s’, and similarly for Nottingham-Glasgow workings; and there were still also a few loco-hauled trains to King’s Cross and St Pancras.
