DIESEL BOILER FAILURE QUERY
I WAS interested to see the Manchester Victoria photo of Class 46 ‘Peak’ No. D179 assisting Class 40 ‘Whistler’ No. D356 with a boiler failure (page 17, February issue).
When steam locos did this kind of job, they used to be inserted between the diesel and the train – even if it occurred en route. I suppose the Class 46’s steam pipe could be connected to the same on
