Encaustic Art

My name is Allan Mulvaney. I was born in 1944 at Newcastle in New South Wales – the eldest of four children. I grew up at nearby Georgetown and attended secondary school with the Marist Brothers at Hamilton, Bowral and Mittagong.

Not finding a vocation as a Marist Brother, I returned to Newcastle and became an Electrical Apprentice at Electric Lamp Manufacturers (Australia). After qualifying as a tradesman, I left ELMA and went contracting; then qualified as a Radio/TV Repairman and Pye Serviceman before returning to ELMA where I spent 18 years as a Shift Maintenance Electrician.

A severe electrical shock encouraged me to change direction in employment. I became an Ambulance Officer at Comsteel, Newcastle. I pursued this course for 21 years with extra stints as Shift Supervisor and Security/ Medical Officer until I was made redundant by new owners.
