Born on May 12, 1895, in Monmouthshire, near Newport, Harry Baughan was to lead a life which encompassed soldiering, engineering, riding, manufacturing and organising, a diverse career which led his 1968 obituary (in The Motor Cycle) to declare him: “One of the greatest trials all-rounders in the history of motorcycling.”
