    IRISH Rail has taken the first step into the bi-mode field with plans to test jointly, with Rolls Royce, nine MTU Hybrid PowerPacks that are to be installed in members of the 22000 Class ICR DMU fleet. There is also an option for a further three packs. If the tests, which are to begin during 2021, are successful, then it is planned to retrofit the equipment in the remainder of the 234-strong fleet of vehicles.
