Hi Brett, I’m finding it very frustrating trying to improve at freehand drawing but not knowing what to do to make it better. What, how, when, why???

Hi Lost, Like most worthwhile endeavours in life, freehand drawing isn’t automatic or even easy to get a grip on at first blush. It takes application, practise, and an open mind with the golden-tinged ability to learn from your ‘mistakes’ in order to see your progressing freehand drawing project in an overall way. I use that word advisedly as there really are no mistakes when freehand drawing, just developmental stages that become more and more accurate as ongoing adjustments and refinements are made as the project comes together. A lot of it comes down to preparing the ground. From selecting an appropriate reference image to the way the actual drawing is begun and developed to the very finest of detail work, so much relies on your
