STEP ONE

In the preliminary sketch stage I address major objects that I want to emphasise, for example the river stones, the drifting wood which caught the water flow in the centre, the dead tree branches on the down left side and the layering vegetation. In this stage, a 2B pencil and black watercolour pencil are used for outlining. Occasionally Mungyo Pastels are used for colour hue testing. Watercolour pencils blend in well with no sketching trace left once the paint is applied, or with just a little bit of water. The
