Two s Company

My works in watercolour use a method that is very untraditional. I work with very little water and use papers that tends to repel rather than absorb water. I sketch lightly in pencil first, mask the main images then airbrush the background. Finally I remove the masking and start the detailed work.

STEP ONE

My subjects have usually been buzzing around in my head for quite a while, sometimes even years, before I finally paint them.

Whenever the opportunity arises I make sketches. With wildlife you have to be an opportunist, so if sketching materials are not close at hand I spend time watching and trying to identify key features such as
