‘Epic ultra, trail and skyrunning races.’ The ad popped up somewhere on Facebook and intrigued me. Being passionate about pretty much most things trail running, I’m overloaded with social media posts, memes, race reports, digital images and triumph-of-thehuman- spirit stories.

I enjoy most of them, but there remains something magically permanent and solid about hardcopy, and this one looked especially appealing – a visually spectacular coffee-table format hardcover collection of descriptions, photographs and stories of 35 of some of the gnarliest runs on the planet, put together by the legend himself, pioneering trail runner Ian Corless.
