Kooyong’s reputation for its January tennis tournament may be sidelined with the rise of the area’s latest attraction – Brothers Keeper.
Brothers Nick and Naidos Markou have brought their welcoming charm and passion for specialty coffee to the leafy and affluent inner city suburb, and the locals are quickly adapting to the new kids on the block.
“We’re serious about our coffee, and it was time Kooyong got serious too,” Nick says.
To be fair, Nick and Naidos have had a head start. They grew up working in their parents’ café, before taking the next step of business ownership – six in total over the past 15 to 20 years.
“I love what I do, and not many people can say that. If you pursue what you love, then I believe you’ll always find some sort of success,” Nick says.
“In our case, that’s a result of our great relationships with suppliers, customers, and serving a quality product. It’s also a bonus that Naidos and I have different strengths, and that’s why we work so well together as business partners – I’m the front of house guy, and Naidos is the book man.”
Despite his longevity within the industry, Nick pushes himself to continue learning and staying up-to-date with trends and new developments.
