The basic principles for the engine had been established by Turner’s experiments while still at Ariel. Imaginative use of the latest materials and processes helped keep down production costs. The built up crankshaft with its central flywheel (polished for the Tiger 100) was supported on a timing side roller bearing and a drive side ball bearing.
