Flying start for Saphos programme

NINE out of Saphos Trains’ initial programme of 12 tours had sold out as this issue went to press.

The company achieved this without major advertising, relying instead on the Statesman database of customers and word of mouth. Saphos also offered discounted ticket prices to help kick-start the programme, such as Standard seats reduced from £95 to £45 and First Class from £145 to £70. So the real test will come with next year’s programme and whether there will be a price hike to match those of other operators.
