WHILE Britain is yet to get its second high speed rail line (HS2) off the ground, with main construction of Phase 1 from London to Birmingham still to begin, Spain has gradually been building up its network of HS lines since 1992.
The first to open was Madrid-Seville, and this year the latest is an extension from Valencia-Castellón in eastern Spain. Radiating from Madrid in the centre of the country, there are now HS lines to Zamora/Leon and Ourense-Santiago/Vigo/LaCoruna in the north-west; Zaragoza/Huesca/Barcelona/France in the north-east; Valencia/Albacete-Alicante in the east/south-east; and
