THE LONGEST DAY

June is a great time for riding, what with the long hours of daylight, so is it a perfect time, to attempt a mid-ride in a day? I visited Scotland earlier this year over eight days, but felt I had missed out on a potentially great route, the 80+ miles from Berwick to Carlisle. With most of my holiday used up, a leisurely ride from home in Somerset to north of the border would have to wait for 2019. Unless of course, I did the whole thing in a single day.

After an early nightthe sea was out of sight. Two hundred miles and three and a half hours into the ride it was straight back into the saddle and back up the A30 to Exeter then M5 north for a refuel outside Bristol at 10.38am. After six hours’ riding I allowed myself a swig of water, a bite of a cereal bar and use of the toilet!
