PETER MELTON
In putting together a tribute to Peter Melton, we had so many options available — from reprinting old interviews and race coverage to speaking to way too many people for it to all fit on one page. In the end we turned to Scott Bishop and Ross McWatters, two guys that knew Peter well from two different perspectives.
SCOTT BISHOP
I wasn’t there the day Pater passed away. But I think I would have a fair idea of how his day was spent and the laughter and good times that he shared in it. Peter and his life-long friend Nathan (aka Sheep) — theirs was a friendship formed over 40 years built around a love of riding dirtbikes — loaded up the van and headed to a local ride park just west of Brisbane.
Along the way would have been plenty of boys’ banter, a stop at the servo for some fuel and a few Chiko Rolls, and maybe a couple travellers for the trip home. On the track, Melton would have let out several woohoos in a voice that you could only recognise as Peter’s, roosted Sheep every chance he got and then turned around to stare at him just to see how much roost he swallowed, and then followed it up with a huge fit of laughter.
Between motos there would have been more boys' banter and a long bench race session about what just happened on the track and how much roost Sheep had eaten, all
