THE UNEXPECTED PROJECT

Simon Ramsden’s enthusiasm for American cars has certainly flourished over the years. His small collection includes a Ford Torino in the unmistakeable ‘Starsky and Hutch’ guise that has already graced the pages of Classic American, but, above all, he’s got a real penchant for Cadillacs and also owns three 1973 examples. However, the one thing missing from his collection was a convertible, something that had been on his wish list for quite a while.

“I was surfing the net just before Christmas in 2010 and came across a 1966 Cadillac Eldorado convertible for sale on eBay,” remembers Simon. “Only 2250 Eldorados were built in 1966 and were among the last of the Eldorado rear-wheel-drive models. The car was located in Birdsborough, Pennsylvania. It was being advertised for $20,000 which wasn’t a huge amount of money compared with mint condition cars that were fetching up to $45,000.
