The old brown REO

Al Parkes has great affection for his 1934 REO Deluxe Flying Cloud Coupe. Not only is it a rare car, it’s one with fantastic history. “It used to belong to my dad, Don,” explains Al. “He fought in the Second World War and was injured at the Battle of the Bulge. He returned home to Lansing, Michigan, and got married. Later he bought a new 1948 Buick and a house, but I suspect making the payments on both got a little expensive because one day in 1950 he saw a kid driving this 1934 REO Coupe and offered to swap the Buick for it - provided the kid took on the Buick’s payments.”

The story went that the REO was bought new by a local doctor. When he died his wife kept the car until she died, then it was sold as part of their estate. “Dad always liked REOs
