Inside job

Roof prep

Simon decided to attack the headliner as the first piece of interior. The original headliner front and rear was stapled into the sheet metal and they were far into the metal, so Simon cut them off and sanded them flat. The reason? Because they wouldn’t let the new headliner fit tight to the metal.

The first job was to brush paint zinc primer on the inside of the roof and pillars. This was followed by two further coats of trusty red oxide paint, which Simon still swears by. There are two reasons for this – one is for added protection and for sound deadening. The second – in Simon’s experience it’s a fantastic key for adhesives to stick to.

The fitting of roof sound deadening came next. After much debate we decided to go for a traditional felt material over Dynomat-type stuff
