Last time in the Impala saga the new alloy rad had been delivered and Simon Browse at Arrow Vintage Cars (www.arrowvintagecars.co.uk) had trial-fitted it in the engine bay and then sent off to have a bespoke bracket built to house a pair of Spal electric cooling fans. Why did I want to opt for electric fans rather than the conventional crank-driven fan layout?

Several reasons: one, my car didn’t come with its steel circular shroud, and two, I knew electric fans were more efficient than the old crank-driven type. Plus, it makes the engine bay look cleaner and allows better airflow around the outside of the engine block to further aid cooling.
