Pumpkin vines cause lots of stress for gardeners about now. They appear to be covered in large yellow male flowers without a pumpkin-producing female bloom to be seen. Like all plants in the cucurbit family, pumpkins produce both male and female flowers and both are needed for fruit. If there are only male flowers, tip prune the long stems to encourage side shoots. Follow up with fertiliser and daily watering. Female flowers, which are the ones that form the fruit, will appear on the side shoots as summer progresses.
