DAVID STEIN

DAVID STEIN RUNS THE LARGEST private painting conservation practice in the Asia-Pacific region. His clients range from private collectors to public, regional and commercial galleries, to private institutions such as banks and auction houses. From structural and cosmetic intervention to restoration and prevention, Stein say his role is ‘anything from Mr Fixit to open heart surgeon and everything in between’.

The Alexandria offices of David Stein & Co are more complicated and multifaceted than they first appear, much like the conservation business today. An elegant office and display space opens onto a workroom, which opens onto a photography studio, which opens onto a climate-controlled storeroom holding racks of works, which opens onto a room filled with equipment imported from England used to flatten and line works.
