STD cases in U.S. hit record highs as officials warn about resistant gonorrhea

There was a record number of STD cases in the U.S. last year, new data shows. And officials warn that some of the bugs are increasingly resisting standard treatments.

Cases of sexually transmitted diseases rose to record highs in 2017 after climbing for four straight years, according to preliminary federal data released Tuesday. Officials warned not only about the “steep and sustained” spread of the diseases but the growing of some of the bugs to standard treatments.
