LOS ANGELES - At least there was no late-game anguish, no stirring comebacks wasted, no triumphant returns dashed. At least, by the ninth inning of a 5-2 loss to St. Louis, the outcome was not really in doubt. The Los Angeles Dodgers were going to lose, and it would hurt a little less than all the collapses that had proceeded it.
The loss still stung. But the Dodgers (67-60) have grown accustomed to losing this month. They've lost more than they've won, with an 8-11 record in August and eight defeats in their last 11 games. They've lost control
