'Dog Days' Is Shaggy But Lovable
Ken Marino directs this conventional if disjointed ensemble rom-com about disparate Los Angeles dog owners. The film finds its legs whenever it leans into its alt-comedy cast and cameos.

In fact, the film itself exhibits a dog-like sensibility: Simple, shaggy, ingratiating, lovable, and totally disinterested in aesthetics, like a St. Bernard's lick across the face. It's upsetting how much this ungainly animal gets away with, but turns earnestness into a primary virtue, beating back the clichĂŠs and is a proper warning label for this one.
