THERE’S A LUMP IN MY RIGHT ACHILLES tendon. I put it there 15 years ago, sometime during three days of brutal hiking in carbon-soled cycling shoes at the inaugural TransRockies race around 2002. Most of the time the lump has stayed quiet and let me go about my business of riding bikes and otherwise goofing off.
