Pharmaceutical sales representatives help keep doctors up to date on medications. New laws shouldn't limit what they can talk about with doctors.

Federal lawmakers recently scrutinized the laws that govern how the drug industry communicates with doctors. The House Subcommittee on Health also held a hearing to solicit public input on how to refine existing rules to ensure that pharmaceutical companies “responsibly disseminate truthful and non-misleading data” on their products. These rules are worth reviewing, and lawmakers deserve thanks for seeking to address outdated regulations that limit what doctors and industry sales representative can talk about.
