About this series

When a father physically, mentally and sexually abuses his daughter from ages 11-23, why does her mother do nothing? Has the mother enabled this situation? Did she want this to happen? Why didn't she step in and help her daughter? What kind of mother does nothing" Or, did this mother even know?

These are the questions readers of Viga Boland's first memoir, "No Tears for my Father" were asking after reading the graphic details of her true story of incest. It was an ugly secret Viga Boland had kept hidden for over 45 years. She told no-one, including her husband, until she was 65.

Now, in "Voice from an Urn", Viga addresses her readers' questions through her mother's own words. Find out why her mother did nothing as together they fill in the blanks about those tension-filled years of secrecy. This is Part 3 of the story begun in "No Tears for my Father", a return to the horror of those years after the oasis offered in Part 2, "Learning to Love Myself", Viga's memoir of recovery and rebirth.

"Voice from an Urn" is another gripping true story by Viga Boland, written for BOTH victims of incest: the children and their mothers. But it is also a story of unspoken love between a mother and child.

No Tears for my Father" is a true story of incest suffered by the author from the ages of 11-23 at the hands of her biological father. WHO SHOULD READ THIS BOOK? 1) Those who truly care about children's welfare and wants to know the truth about what can and does go on in thousands of families worldwide. These readers want to understand how incest affects children as they grow into adulthood and what the long-lasting effects of incest can be like. 2) Those who are in denial and refuse to believe this kind of child sexual abuse actually occurs at the hands of fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles and other close family relatives WHO SHOULDN'T READ THIS BOOK? 1) Those who think incest is an acceptable and enjoyable activity between family members 2) Those who think this is another "Fifty Shades of Gray" and are looking for sexual stimulation via books 3) Those who are still very raw in their own healing and recovery from incest and could be easily triggered by the graphic scenes and language 4) Those victims looking for a book on healing or how to recover from childhood sexual abuse. This is a story only. Those seeking help in healing should consult a therapist, join a self-help group or purchase one of the many excellent books available for healing purposes, such as THE COURAGE TO HEAL HOW IS THE BOOK ORGANIZED? The book is divided into 3 primary sections: CHILDHOOD (ages 5-10); ADOLESCENCE (ages 11 – 18); ADULTHOOD (ages 19 – 23) Sprinkled throughout the book are poems penned by the author specifically for the book and related to elements in that section of the story. There is a further 8 pages of just poems at the end of the book, which also contains 3 pages detailing factual information about child sexual abuse statistics in Canada where the author is based. The Book also offers a handful of personal photos taken from Viga Boland's family archives. As the description on the back cover of the book states, the author was "trapped in a web of deceit and confusion spun by her father". She tells this story complete with graphic descriptions and language because "that's the way it happened and that's how it must be told". In consideration of reader sensitivity and possible personal exposure childhood sexual abuse, the author has placed a "trigger advisory" warning on the book as she spares no words nor feelings in telling how it all happened.

Viga Boland, author of "No Tears for my Father", (awarded a Gold Medal in the 2014 Readers Favorite Book Awards) was a victim of sexual abuse at the hands of her biological father for 14 years. When true love afforded her a chance to escape, despite flashbacks and insecurities, she relied on the strengths born of her struggles and pain to embrace a new life. However, in keeping silent about the abuse for over 40 years of marriage, Viga indirectly also made her husband a victim of her narcissistic father. Yet, her husband stood strong beside her: that's what true love does. "Learning to Love Myself" is a memoir of rebirth and recovery from abuse. But it is first and foremost, a love story: the love of a husband and wife; the love of children; and the love of self.

Author

Viga Boland

Viga Boland is the author of 4 books, three of which are memoirs based on the childhood sexual abuse (incest) to which she was subjected from the ages of 11-24. She kept the abuse secret for nearly 45 years, not even telling her husband and family until she was 65. On hearing the details, her small but supportive family encouraged her to write her true story to help other victims of incest realize they are not alone and to increase awareness of this much denied form of sexual abuse. The result of the encouragement was her first memoir, self-published in 2013, "NO TEARS FOR MY FATHER", for which she received a Gold Medal in the 2014 Readers Favourites Awards. Today, at 70 years of age, Viga Boland is a popular speaker at conferences on Sexual Violence. She also blogs and podcasts on sexual abuse, (i-Tunes, Stitcher, Podcasts.com) along with teaching memoir writing in her local library. She is also devoted to helping other memoir writers increase their visibility via her blogs and podcasts at http://www.memoirabilia.ca Viga's 2nd memoir, "Learning to Love Myself" is centered on her story of healing and self-discovery as someone worthy of love. This book is an uplifting and enjoyable read. The 3rd memoir in this series on sexual abuse, "Voice from an Urn", answers questions about Viga's mother's role, if she had one, in the incest. You can listen to sections of this book via her "VIGALAND" podcast. (See Viga's personal website for the links on iTunes and Stitcher) Viga's other book. a semi-memoir, is a very humorous account of her 4-5 years in a Catholic High School in the early 60's. "The Ladies of Loretto", at this time, is only available from Viga's personal website: http://www.vigaboland.com
