About this series

Sally Altass Review wrote, 5 STARS: Nothing is simple and straightforward. The story twists and turns and throws curveballs that even the most ardent mystery reader wouldn’t expect.

Her fate rests with the map...

It is 1967 and Fifteen-year-old Melanie Simpson's life has been ripped apart and is lying in shambles. With a mother near death, and her relationship with Frankie faltering, regaining footing, then faltering again, Mel must try to keep a balance between death, love and deceit—afraid to know which will win out.

Someone then steps into her life, changing it forever. She may need to leave home and lose her close friends; possibly forever. She also learns of a truth she refuses to believe and runs from it. But from what, and into what?
Still, she continues her quest, driven by the destiny of a connection with the Sky People and a link to the stars. She resumes her search for the mysterious Orb, a device given to her father by an alien. Now that her father has died, it is up to her to locate the Orb and finish his work.

She finds a professor who filmed him with the Orb. It shows a hologram of a sixteenth-century map, the Map of Orbis Terrarum, and displays points of energy around the world her father was studying. Could the map reveal the purpose of her quest?

But in her efforts to reach the professor, death and destruction find their hold.

The many layers of Melanie Simpson continue to unfold, driving her along the path of destiny.

A B.R.A.G. MEDALLION HONOREE and part of the three-time award winning Melanie Simpson Mystery Series. Their discovery could change the world forever... In 1947 a spaceship crashed outside Roswell, New Mexico. The government quickly covered it up. And the most famous UFO event in history remained buried. But what if someone smuggled material out from the crash site and decades later it remained hidden in a secret location? And what if a young teenage girl named Melanie Simpson is the only one who can figure out where? READERS FAVORITE REVIEW: If you're a fan of TV shows like Stranger Things, you're going to love The Roswell Quest. DJ Schneider masterfully incorporates real-life events to craft an engaging narrative that keeps you hooked from start to finish. Frankie is a normal fourteen-year-old boy, enjoying baseball and pulling pranks until Melanie Simpson moves in next door. She wears sleeveless t-shirts, jeans with holes in the knees, Converse sneakers, and can throw a really mean curveball. None of that stops Frankie from falling for her. But Melanie comes with a mystery; one even she doesn’t know exists. Together, with their friend Beanie, they pull a hoax that goes terribly wrong, but leads to an amazing discovery. Mel’s father had been at the UFO crash in Roswell and smuggled some of the alien material out. He is dead now and it is hidden somewhere. Mel, Frankie and Beanie work to unravel the clues to where. They soon discover others are after it. The Air Force who wants to keep their cover-up secure, and a Russian Agent desperate to get the alien material for the valuable technology he could deliver to his country. It puts them in terrible danger—and only Melanie can find a way out. THE NIGHT OWL said: As a kid growing up with Stand By Me, Goonies, Monster Squad, and other films in that genre it was nice to get that feeling from a book. THE UFO DETECTIVE said: DJ Schneider is doing something important—capturing the REAL truths about Roswell and delivering them in an entertaining novel. ABOUT ROSWELL: The most famous UFO event in history was the discovery of a crashed flying saucer and alien bodies outside Roswell, New Mexico, in July 1947. The military put out a press release saying they had recovered a flying disk, but recanted the next day, stating it was a big misunderstanding and just a weather balloon. Over the following days the military from Roswell Army Air Field covered it up—they cordoned off the crash sites, recovered the bodies and debris, threatened the local population into silence, and switched out pieces of a weather balloon for the crash debris in a big press event. And the most important UFO incident in history remained buried for years. This novel was previously titled Hoaxes Roswell. Reviewer: Ok. Wow!!! Such a fun read! I lost half of one day because I could NOT stop reading! Reviewer: I love this book! DJ Schneider has managed to make you feel as if you are a character in his story. Reviewer: I could not put it down and I had so much else to do. Reviewer: You will feel as if you were right there with the characters. Reviewer: The characters have great personalities that really shine throughout the whole read. Reviewer: Once I started this book, I couldn’t set it down. DJ Schneider

So, you may want to ask DJ Schneider— How did your Melanie Simpson Series come about? Here is his answer: One day long ago, when times were simpler, while I was meandering the halls of the local library I happened upon a book by Charles Berlitz and William Moore titled, The Roswell Incident. I became instantly fascinated and ever since have read everything I could find about the Roswell crash, the world of UFOs and the possibility of life on other planets. Do I believe Roswell really happened? Absolutely! I actually was a bit of a skeptic at first, but after extensive research I am a true believer that intelligent life exists out there. Thus, it made sense (at least to me) to combine my love of writing with my interest in the UFO world. And why not write a novel series in the young adult genre? Roswell, and so many other significant events surrounding UFOs happened in the 40s through the 70s. I felt it important to write a novel that brought this information to our newer generations in a fun, yet informative way. And, it has also turned out to be a great crossover with the baby boomers who lived in those times. On the conventional side— I love to write. I honed my creative writing skills at the Log Cabin Literary Center in Boise, Idaho with a writing group called the Magnificent Seven. I worked with Kelly Jones (The Woman Who Heard Color, Penguin Group), helping to edit her novel, The Last Madonna, and with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tony Doerr (All the Light We Cannot See, Simon and Schuster)—both instrumental in developing my craft. I also spent many years as a professional writer/producer in the advertising field for radio, television, and print, having owned an advertising agency at one point. I am a member of SCBWI, Willamette Writers, and the Gresham Writers. Right now, I am nearing the Orion Nebula, touring the universe on a spaceship with two of my novel characters, Orbit and Slug (you don't know about them yet, but will). When I finally set my feet on earth again, it will be in Oregon where I live, returning to what I call 'The Writing Cave.' There I will continue work on Melanie's next great adventure, and on another book I am writing called River of Dreams.
