"Twisty, grisly, genre-bending and immersive, Not Even Bones will grab you by the throat and drag you along as it gleefully tramples all of your expectations." --Sara Holland, New York Times best-selling author of Everless Dexter meets This Savage Song in this dark fantasy about a girl who sells magical body parts on the black market -- until she's betrayed. Nita doesn't murder supernatural beings and sell their body parts on the internet--her mother does that. Nita just dissects the bodies after they've been "acquired." Until her mom brings home a live specimen and Nita decides she wants out; dissecting a scared teenage boy is a step too far. But when she decides to save her mother's victim, she ends up sold in his place--because Nita herself isn't exactly "human." She has the ability to alter her biology, a talent that is priceless on the black market. Now on the other side of the bars, if she wants to escape, Nita must ask herself if she's willing to become the worst kind of monster.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5What a fun ride! I think it was a great conclusion to the trilogy and tied up a lot of the loose ends from the previous ones. The overall plot was well paced, with slower moments that were emotionally heavy handed enough to make up for the pause in pacing.
The characters are fun and came to a cohesive arc that, i feel, was fun and compelling to watch. I know everyone tends to gush about Kovit, but Nita is a fun protagonist. While a lot of her actions frustrated me, especially anything regarding Adair, i enjoyed having a main character who showed us their whit and wasn’t afraid to get blood on their hands. Making Nita even more fun because she likes the blood, might even drink it. While they may be frustrating at times, it never seemed like her actions were outside of her character, and i did understand her thought process most of the time. A fun bloodthirsty, vengeance-seeking, killer protagonist, though at times she can read a little like a wattpad creepypasta y/n insert.
Kovit of course, wormed his way into my favorites. To his sick cruelty, to his steadfast loyalty and love for Nita, he feels like a very intricate character. There’s more going on behind that creepy smile than you think and i throughly enjoyed his character. I also love how at no point did i feel like there was any justification for Kovit’s actions on Schaeffer’s part. They frequently remind the audience that no matter his past or the reasons behind his actions, no matter how much pity you feel for him, do not forget that he is not a good person. He has hurt many people and absolutely revels in the pain he causes and while he is the protagonist of this story, he is most definitely the antagonist in many others. And for the most part, that’s acknowledged.
Though, this book did make me wonder if creatures such as Zannies were real, would they still be held to the same moral standard as us? Are they human? I would have loved to know a bit more about the intricacies of all the species that are introduced, but i get why it wasn’t touched on so much.
